Facepalming

I had intended on writing about Ephesians since we, as a church, are halfway through the letter in our series.

I had intended on acknowledging and celebrating what's been said so far.

I had intended on writing about the beauty of Paul's words and how he reminds the people of God's greatness and how the Lordship of Jesus is their cause for unity.

I had intended on reminding us of the unity to which we are called.

I had intentions.

But then...

But then, it feels challenging to write about celebration, beauty, greatness, and unity when my phone blows up with news of another life taken unnecessarily. I find myself continually using the facepalming emoji, because my words seem insignificant to me.

Pause. Lament. Repeat.

It feels trite to talk about anything else. Yet, this is the reason Paul writes. He recognizes how much of a fight it is for the church to bear with one another in love. It's worth it. The kind of love that overflows from the very person and character of God. It's who God is through and through. We need it desperately.

We need it like we need air to breathe--like George Floyd needed air to breathe, while a knee was on his neck for over 7 minutes. We can't go over 7 minutes without air and we certainly cannot go over 7 minutes without God's love.

Try to hold your breath for over 7 minutes and see how you do.

Try to live your life without God's love for over 7 minutes and see how you do.

In both scenarios, you'll find yourself gasping for life.

Maranatha....Come, our LORD Jesus.
