Why is THAT in the Bible!?!?

If you listened to the most recent sermon on Ephesians 5:21-6:9, we talked about what it looks like to "submit to one another out of reverence for Christ." Paul specifically talks about households. What may surprised you, however, is that this is one of the sections in the Bible that talks about slavery.

In some cases, slaves were part of the Greco-Roman household in the first century. But, perhaps even more disturbing to those of you who are wondering why slavery is in the Bible;

yes, it was...and it is still

It's important, though, to understand that there is a significant difference from race-based chattel slavery in American history than slavery in the scriptures. I want to point you to a pretty extensive resource that discusses slavery in the Bible, so that you can continue to learn more about the context.
